Interested in Homeschooling?

Massachusetts law requires the Lynn School Committee to review and approve home education programs before they begin.

Parents or guardians of students under age 16 must:

  • Submit a written homeschool notification at least 14 days before beginning the program.
  • Submit a new notification each year the student is homeschooled.
  • Complete the district form with the student’s name, age, address, proposed subjects, instructional hours, curriculum, and learning materials.
  • Provide any additional information requested as part of the district’s review.

When reviewing a homeschool proposal, the district may consider:

  • The curriculum and amount of instructional time
  • The parent or guardian’s ability to provide instruction
  • Textbooks, instructional materials, lesson plans, and teaching resources
  • A plan for assessing the student’s educational progress

Students should remain enrolled in school until the homeschool program has been reviewed and approved.
