Transportation Safety

Student safety is the utmost priority for the Lynn Public School Department. The Transportation Department is responsible for transporting your students to and from their school safely. There are many safety policies that are in place to ensure safe transportation for the district’s students. It is our mission to provide a collaborative communication dialogue with parents and guardians to provide our students with their transportation service.

School departments across the country continue to experience staffing shortages since the pandemic. While we all hope that as people return to the workforce this will be resolved, it is important to be mindful of the challenges that this shortage presents to the community. The Lynn Public Schools have safety measures in place while your student is in our care. An important part of this is the steps that parents and guardians can take when placing your student(s) on/off the vehicle.

1. CONFIRM WITH THE DRIVER THAT YOUR STUDENT IS ON THE VEHICLE ROSTER

2. INCLUDE A CARD IN YOUR CHILD’S BACKPACK WITH THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION

-FIRST AND LAST NAME OF CHILD
-SCHOOL NAME
-FIRST AND LAST NAME OF PARENT
-PARENT PHONE NUMBER

The start of a school year is always a busy and hectic time for all as students, families, schools, and bus drivers get accustomed to their back-to-school routine. Given the challenges to new students that may be starting their first academic year, such as, the first time they board a vehicle to an unfamiliar environment without the parent or guardian, additional time may be needed as the child boards the vehicle, causing a bus route to be delayed.

Bus pick-up times are provided for all families. The time is an approximation due to traffic delays. All scheduled pick-up times have a 10-minute window before and after the scheduled time. Students must be prepared for the vehicle ten minutes before the scheduled pick-up time. If the bus is more than 10 minutes late, please call the Transportation Department at 781-477-7220 ext. 1814 and our office will provide you with assistance.

Due to the many necessary changes to transportation at the start of a new school year, busing accommodations are subject as deemed necessary by our transportation vendors to best serve the Lynn Public School community. This could include changes in scheduled pick-up times, buses, and/or drivers.

Reminder:  Parents/Guardians must submit an Alternate Transportation Form before every school year and/or summer program. Alternate pick-up and drop-off accommodations received the previous school year do not carry forward to the new school year.  The Alternate Transportation Forms can be located on the LPS Transportation Department website.

All transportation change requests submitted during September will take 5 business days to be in effect. The months following September, change request will take 3 business days. Due to vendor contracts, there cannot be any exceptions to the wait time.
